What’s your favorite month of the year? Why?
When you live in Ohio—where the weather has the emotional stability of a possum on Red Bull—there’s only one month that captures my heart… September!
September shows up like the responsible older sibling who actually paid attention during Mother Nature’s life-skills class.
I mean, August in Ohio feels like we’re living inside someone’s armpit. October is like, “Surprise! Jack Frost is here! And why are your pumpkins frozen solid?”
But September? September strolls in wearing sunglasses, sipping iced coffee, and whispering, “Hey… how about 45° at night, 80° during the day, and skies so blue they should be sponsored by Crayola?”
It’s the perfect blend of summer and fall! I walk outside in the morning and almost need a jacket. By noon, I’m sweating like a squirrel running from a lawnmower. I absolutely love September’s beautiful chaos!
The trees start flirting with the first hints of color… bits of yellow; a touch of red; a little orange… It’s the beginning of autumn’s magnificent show.
Then there’s the super-duper, mega-ultra cool sport of football! Saturdays are filled with screams of joy for the Ohio State Buckeyes. If you’re not from Ohio, you might think you’ve accidentally crashed a top secret Buckeye cult meeting. Don’t worry, the only initiation is knowing how to spell O-H-I-O. Oh, and don’t mention that state to the north of us… just saying. 🤷
And Sundays, well… ummm… Sundays are typically Ohioans crying into their beer after the Browns and Bengals finish their weekly tutorials on “How to Snatch Defeat From the Jaws of Victory.”
September in Ohio is the magical weather zone, too!
No humidity!
No thunderstorms!
No tornado sirens!
No random snowflakes!
No cicadas screaming like they’re being chased by the IRS!
And perfect flying weather!
It’s that moment when Ohio tricks you into thinking, “Wow! This place is actually kind of beautiful!”
Don’t worry, November will fix that illusion! 😂
