Serving Others… One Pepperoni at a Time

Write about a random act of kindness you’ve done for someone.

They say kindness comes in many forms. Some people shovel driveways, others donate to a good cause, and then… there’s me. A humble servant of the carb-loaded community.

One day, while innocently minding my own business in line at the local pizza shop—as one does—I witnessed a small tragedy. The person in front of me was mistakenly handed two pizzas instead of one. You could see the confusion in their eyes. The panic! The internal struggle between waistband and willpower!

Naturally, I stepped in…

Like a cheese-loving knight with marinara-stained armor, I said, “I see your burden, and I offer to carry it.” I accepted the second pizza like a true hero… with extra napkins. Sure, some may say it was just me taking advantage of a free pie, but let’s not twist this moment of deep sacrifice. I took those extra calories so they wouldn’t have to. I saved them from a month of regret and one uncomfortable button pop. I mean, it’s a tough moment of sacrifice on my part… but someone needed to step in. 😜

Now, on a more serious note: while that slice of charity may have come with garlic crust, most of the time, I prefer to keep acts of kindness on the down low. The best kind of good deed is the one done quietly—no hashtags, no trophies, just a little something between me and God. And maybe the occasional squirrel who witnesses it from a tree branch.

It’s not about being seen. It’s about being available. Whether it’s giving someone your umbrella, your seat, or even your cholesterol tolerance, kindness can be simple and silly, or deep and life-changing. Either way, it’s best served warm… like pizza.
