What job would you do for free?
Most people give noble answers like “helping others,” “volunteering,” or “being a professional pizza taste-tester”—okay, I may add the last one to my list, too. But me? I’ve cracked the code. I’m already doing the job I’d do for free: writing and working in aviation.

Now, let me clarify: when I say “writing,” I don’t mean jotting down passwords on sticky notes or composing emotionally charged Yelp reviews—though I do excel at both. I’m talking about real, geeked-out aviation technical writing—the kind that turns airplane operating manuals into bedtime stories—for a very niche audience, of course. It’s a magical fusion of precision, structure, and just enough word-nerdery to make even a checklist look poetic. Okay, it’s not really poetic… but it’s definitely precise!
And as for “working in aviation”? Oh, you better believe I mean actual flying. From taking off in the cockpit to coordinating flights on the ground as a licensed flight dispatcher, I’m either in the sky or glued to computer screens making sure someone else gets there. Whether I’m soaring through the clouds or plotting someone else’s course, aviation is in my blood. And yes, I still occasionally pretend my rolling chair is a jet while I zoom across the office—because professionalism has its limits—just saying… 🤷😂
So yes, I’m out here living the dream. Writing words, dodging clouds, and somehow not getting paid enough for either. But hey—when you love what you do, they say you’ll never work a day in your life. Which is perfect, because some days I forget what day it is anyway.
Now if only someone would pay me in snacks. Or better yet, put me on the payroll as a professional pizza taste-tester.
