Sputnik Moment? 🤔

Topic:

U.S. markets plummeted early last week after China unveiled its new AI model, Deepseek, which is reportedly as capable as ChatGPT but built with lower-cost chips and offered at half the price.

While this development is concerning, it may be the swift kick in the ass needed to spur AI innovation in the U.S. When the Soviets launched Sputnik—the first artificial satellite—the U.S. had a similar freakout moment, realizing it was falling behind in the space race. However, this shock led to a surge of innovation, ultimately propelling the U.S. to achieve the first manned moon landing.

Time will tell, but if I were a betting man, I’d say this moment of panic in the U.S. could turn out to be a positive—so long as it doesn’t inspire some overeducated bureaucrat in D.C. to hook AI up to our nukes and call it Skynet. I’m not exactly keen on going full Terminator mode. Lol!
